NYANA’s Center for Women and Families is a leading provider of domestic violence services for battered immigrant women in New York City. It has served individuals from over 100 countries since its establishment in 1997. From the first call to our emergency hotline, through counseling, advocacy, legal assistance and long-term services, every client is treated with the utmost discretion and service — and every effort is made to help victims establish a more secure and healthier life. The Center provides a complete array of services aimed at empowering women and helping them learn how to cope with crisis situations with the goal of ultimately breaking free from the cycle of domestic violence. Programs and services include:
The NYANA Center For Women And Families also ensures that clients’ legal issues are addressed. Every client is given a detailed orientation concerning his or her legal rights and options so they can make informed decisions about all the issues they may face, such as orders of protection, child custody, divorce, public benefits and specific immigration-related problems. Caseworkers are on hand to help NYANA clients with any questions. Many of New York City’s premier organizations (e.g.; Bellevue Hospital and NYU) and government agencies (e.g.; the Mayor’s Inter-Agency Task Force On Domestic Violence) look to NYANA for training and assistance in working with victims of domestic abuse. Along with capacity building, The Center provides comprehensive training and custom-designed, culturally appropriate technical assistance to grassroots groups to help raise the awareness of domestic violence and better organize to address domestic violence and all its associated problems. An example of NYANA’s effective outreach effort is Project Strive. This powerful community awareness campaign offers a variety of multi-lingual printed materials containing detailed information about the services available to victims. The New York State Office for the Prevention of Domestic Violence has recognized Project Strive as the most successful effort in the state, and has asked for reprints and additional materials for use by domestic violence agencies statewide. > download Project STRIVE English (pdf) > download Project STRIVE Spanish (pdf) If you cannot view Project STRIVE documents on your computer you must first download and install Adobe Acrobat Reader Project STRIVE materials are also available in Arabic, Bengali, Chinese, Creole, French, Hindi, Japanese, Korean, Russian, Serbo-Croatian (Bosnian) and Vietnamese.
